Since she was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2004, Hetty Hazenberg has struggled for survival in two worlds - one of conventional medicine that focused on operations, chemotherapy and radiation, and the other of alternative medicine that considered her mind, spirit, and soul.

More than three years later, the 38-year-old Dutch-born North Vancouver resident feels she has found the right balance, including a new job, a new outlook on life, and a foot in each medical camp.

"I believe the two go hand in hand," says Hazenberg, who will undergo more testing next month. "I needed an operation, but there is so much we can do ourselves. We can't just focus on the body. We all have a mind, soul and spirit that needs to be healed, too."

Treviso 33 Newport Gwent Dragons 35

Sweeney missed the chance to steady the ship when his penalty drifted wide and Treviso capitalised when Alberto Sgarbi beat Mustoe with ease to score a third try for Treviso.

Goosen added the conversion as well as two long-range penalties to put the home side 33-32 ahead 15 minutes from time.

But Newport switched back on and Sweeney's late drop-goal was enough to secure all five points.

Prostate cancer deadlier for overweight men: study

The heavier a man is at the time of diagnosis the greater his risk of death, according to a study published in today's issue of the journal, Cancer.

After five years, the death rate for normal weight men from locally advanced prostate cancer was 6.5 per cent, compared to 13 per cent for overweight men and 12 per cent for obese men.

Benign lesions the same in dogs and humans

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind., Nov. 26 (UPI) -- A team of U.S. and Italian scientists have found premalignant mammary lesions in dogs and humans display many of the same characteristics.

The Purdue University-led researchers said their discovery could lead to better understanding of breast cancer progression and prevention for both people and their dogs.

The scientists found similarities between benign lesions that are at risk for developing into breast cancer in both canines and humans, said Purdue veterinary scientist Sulma Mohammed, an associate professor of comparative pathobiology..

"Dogs develop these lesions spontaneously in contrast to other available models and are exposed to the same environmental risk factors as humans," said Mohammed. "These shared features make the dog an ideal model to compare the breast lesions that will progress to cancer and those that will regress.
